Nursing Education in Connecticut 2022 New Report Examines CT Nursing Programs' 2022 Demographic Makeup In collaboration with the Connecticut Center for Nursing Workforce, Inc., we are pleased to announce our newest report analyzing the demographics of students and faculty in Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs throughout the state of Connecticut in 2022. Here are some insights from our report: - Across all RN pre-licensure programs in Connecticut, the total number of graduates increased steadily from 1,736 in 2017 to 2,143 in 2022 (23% increase).
- Since 2019, associate degree programs have consistently reached full enrollment capacity for new students, however, higher-level programs have struggled to fill all
available seats. Specifically, in 2022, both baccalaureate and accelerated baccalaureate programs had a 12% vacancy rate, while master's degree programs had an even higher vacancy rate of 28%.
- RN programs attracted younger students, with 83% under 30 while LPN programs drew an older demographic with 55% aged 30 or older.
- The student population in RN programs reflected the state's diversity. Across the state, the student body was approximately 69% White, 14% Hispanic/Latino, 12% Black or African American, 7% Asian, and 5% other races.
- LPN programs exhibited greater diversity, with Black or African American students forming the largest group (48%), followed by Hispanic/Latino (23%), White (19%), other races (7%), and Asian (2%). This distribution contrasts sharply with both the RN student body and the overall faculty composition.
Explore the Nursing Data Portal For over a decade, the CCNW has played a pivotal role in shedding light on
the composition of Connecticut's nursing professionals. In 2018, CCNW joined forces with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and CTData Collaborative to create a comprehensive database of all RNs and LPNs in the state. Head to the Nursing Data
